I Own This: May 2021 Nominees

PS Magazine’s I Own This campaign is designed to recognize Warfighters of all services who exemplify the highest standards of care for their assigned vehicles and equipment and contribute in meaningful ways to their unit's overall maintenance and supply posture. In short, they live and breathe readiness.

This month, we had three (3) Warfighters nominated for this program. All are deserving of this recognition. One was selected at random to get the spotlight placed on them. This month, that individual is SPC Lilia Herrera, US Army.

Spotlight Profile

SPC Herrera
SPC Lilia I. Herrera
Army/Active
Ambulance Aide Driver
8-1 CAV, 2-5 SBCT, 2 ID
JBLM, WA
Nominated by: SGT Austin Schultz

How did you come to know/observe the nominee's actions? I observed SPC Herrera during a field training exercise (FTX) as the vehicle commander for her assigned vehicle.

Why does this individual deserve recognition? This Soldier displayed a high level of commitment to the operational sustainment of the vehicle and system for the entire duration of the exercise, with excellent preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS). SPC Herrera was constantly on top of our fluid levels and kept us within operational parameters, at all times. Our vehicle was one of the few that had no major mechanical issues during the exercise.

Additional Comments: SPC Herrera’s vehicle was recognized by the unit maintenance chief as the cleanest Height Management System (HMS) in the entire unit.

Component:             Marines/Active
NSN or End Item:    M18 Service Pistol
Nominated by:         GySgt Daniel Gasca, Jr.
Justification:           He was only assigned a few months ago, but he has taken superb initiative in the armory and quickly learned all assigned tasks. This Marine doesn’t stop when his job is done; instead he assists fellow Marines with other jobs and tasks, such as preparing M18 pistols for upcoming ranges. He displays a high level of motivation and job satisfaction and has recently been assigned as the inventory control noncommissioned officer (NCO).

Soldier's Name:      PFC Jasper D. Edmisten
Unit:                         F CO, 3-319 AFAR, Fort Bragg, NC
Position/Title:         Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic
Component:            Army/Active
NSN or End Item:    Wheeled vehicles
Nominated by:        1LT Meghan Copenhaver
Justification:           PFC Edmisten was awarded Maintainer of the Month by the maintenance control officer. He has gone above and beyond his grade and position by taking charge in the absence of orders in the section. He took it upon himself to personally train operators during Command Maintenance for his assigned battery. His hard work led to more skillful operators and organizational buy-in on conducting PMCS that will certainly have a positive sustainment outcome for our unit.
