Maintainers, if you have an M200A1 trailer, this little workhorse has an important brake shoe update that’s not in TM 9-2330-205-13&P (Sep 14). The roadside brake shoe (with emergency brake link), NSN 2530-00-774-9401, has been discontinued.
There’s possible confusion on Page 0093-6 of the TM. Look at the image below and you’ll see the TM lists two (2) instances of Item 33 (the roadside brake shoe and the curbside brake shoe; each has its own NSN). The TM also shows two (2) listings for Item 37 (the manual control lever for the curbside brake shoe and the rig connecting link for the roadside brake shoe; each has its own NSN).
TM excerpt showing which items to order to replace the discontinued roadside brake shoe
You can use the curbside brake shoe (with emergency brake link), NSN 2530-00-774-9402, to replace the discontinued roadside brake shoe (with emergency brake link). Just double-check the item name and NSN, to make sure you’re ordering the right part.
Heads up! Before you order the curbside brake shoe (with emergency brake link), disassemble all of the components of the old roadside brake shoe and make sure you inspect the rig connecting link for rust, obvious defects and excessive wear. If the old rig roadside connecting link passes your inspection, order the curbside brake shoe (with emergency brake link) and reuse the old rig roadside connecting link.
But be careful! If the old rig connecting link shows
any sign of excessive wear, rust or obvious defects, then you’ll have to replace it with the rig roadside connecting link, NSN 3040-00-150-7127, shown as Item 37, to ensure a proper fit. Again, double-check the item name and NSN to make sure you’re ordering the right part, otherwise the substitute curbside brake shoe won’t connect properly.
Let’s rehash the bottom line. You can replace the discontinued roadside brake shoe (with emergency brake link) with the curbside brake shoe (with emergency brake link), NSN 2530-00-774-9402
and if the old rig roadside connecting link needs replacing, order the rig roadside connecting link, NSN 3040-00-150-7127, to ensure a proper fit.
Jot this down until the TM is updated.
