PS Magazine’s
I Own This campaign is designed to recognize Warfighters of all services who exemplify the highest standards of care for their assigned vehicles and equipment and contribute in meaningful ways to their unit's overall maintenance and supply posture. In short, they live and breathe readiness.
For the month of September 2020, we had one Warfighter nominated for this program. That Soldier is PFC Dawson J. Ayers.
Spotlight Profile
PFC Dawson J. Ayers
Army/Active
FSC, 84th Engineer BN, Schofield Barracks, HI
Nominated by: 2LT Patrick Kovacs
How did you come to know/observe the nominee's actions? PFC Ayers arrived in my platoon shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost immediately, he demonstrated tremendous diligence and the ability to succeed as the only member in his shop. He is very serious about his work and always completes what needs to be done in a timely manner.
Why does this individual deserve recognition? PFC Ayres has been the only small arms repairer for the 84th Engineer Battalion for over six months. In that time he has completed over 1,000 services, repairs and unscheduled maintenance across six companies during two consecutive “Stay at Home” COVID-19 orders. As a subject-matter expert in multiple battalion live-fire exercises, PFC Ayres repaired seven weapons to allow adjacent companies to train without any delay. PFC Ayres keeps his armament shop clean and comes to work with a smile on his face every day.
Any additional comments? This Soldier listens to his NCOs and will do what is asked without hesitation.
