For 70 years, Soldiers—as well as other service personnel—have relied on
PS Magazine to get the late-breaking, correct information they need to keep their fleets combat ready. Still, a question continues to pop up in motor pools and maintenance shops about whether
PS Magazine is an authorized source of maintenance information.
Some operators or mechanics have the idea that the information in
PS Magazine’s previous paper copy or current website can’t be used because it’s not in the TMs.
Here’s the scoop:
PS Magazine is a DA-endorsed source for the latest maintenance and supply information.
Per AR 700-138,
Army Logistics Readiness and Sustainability (Apr 18):
PS Magazine is intended to enhance materiel readiness by emphasizing preventive maintenance and promoting proper maintenance and supply procedures. Review of PS Magazine will be a regular part of unit readiness initiatives. A reader service is available to answer maintenance and supply questions.
Also, information in the magazine is reviewed and approved by the same life cycle management commands, program executive offices and agencies responsible for publishing a vehicle’s or equipment’s TM and other official publications. Sometimes these publications have errors, omissions or confusing language that need correcting, and it can take several years for the release of official published updates. That’s where
PS helps. We provide the latest information possible.
Again,
PS does
not change the content of a directive publication. The only thing that changes a TM is an official change or a revision to the TM. What
PS does—along with other communication media such as the EIR Digest, SOUM and MAM messages—is point out that responsible technical specialists have found the info in a publication to be outdated, incorrect or misleading and correct it. It also shares a lot more, all of it validated and approved.
Faulty information makes Warfighters less safe and can result in damage to equipment. For seven decades, Warfighters have relied on
PS Magazine to learn best practices and discover innovative and approved solutions to maintenance problems they face on a daily basis.
Bottom line:
PS Magazine is an authoritative source of information. Soldiers should make reading it a daily habit!
